The countdown to Food Revolution Day 2016 has begun! This year 20th of May 2016 is the Food Revolution Day.

Like every year, this year, too the Food Revolution Community will be celebrating this day with an aim to raise awareness about the importance of good food and food education. It’s a day to shout about the benefits of cooking from scratch and, ultimately to show people that not only is fresh food tastier, changing their food choices can also make them healthier and happier.

So why do we need this revolution and how can you be a part of it?

Today 41 million kids under the age of five are overweight, while another 159 million are undernourished, something isn’t right. There is a need to make meaningful, lasting change in the way our children access, consume and understand food. The health of future generations is in our hands. Food Revolution is about each and every one of us taking a stand. It is all about the small and everyday changes we make in our lives. Join us by inspiring your children and cooking healthier and real food, sign up at jamiesfoodrevolution.org to get all the news, recipes and resources.

Celebrate FRD 2016 with Food Revolution Dubai

This year Food Revolution Day is, above all, about sharing the power of cooking and we are focusing on ten recipes that together can teach us all the skills we need to feed ourselves and our families’ good, nutritious food for years to come!

Like last year (read what we did last year HERE, this year, too we will be celebrating this day all week long (15th-21st May). There are a number of events planned and on behalf of Food Revolution Dubai I’d love to invite all of you to join this revolution.

I had so much fun with the tiny food inspectors at the Indian High School, last year and this year too 100 children at the Indian High School will be donning their aprons and their chef’s hats and joining us to learn the following:

  • What Food Revolution is all about
  • The importance of a healthy breakfast
  • How much sugar is there in our food specifically common breakfast items that children consume
  • Conduct a sugar experiment where they will guess the amount of sugar in each item
  • Share with them alternate healthy choices that they can have for breakfast.
  • Make and eat our fab recipe for a DIY Oaty Fruity Cereal to kick off their day.

We are also planning a quarterly cooking session with the children (currently a work in progess). The entire primary school is also joining a year long revolution where we will together cook all the ten recipes albeit virtually.

20th of May 2016 is the Food Revolution Day however I strongly believe that every day is a Food Revolution Day and I’d love to have all of you join me in celebrating this year long.

Each month I will be sharing one out of the ten Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution recipes so we can all cook it together with our children. Just one recipe in 30 days! Yes, that is it, so doable right? And at the end of the year I assure you we will have children who will appreciate new flavours, taste new ingredients and flavours, develop a love for real food and will make tons of happy memories with you in the kitchen.

Simply cook the recipe of the month in your own kitchen with your little ones, at a time and a day that works for you and share the picture here.

Come join the revolution by clicking here: JOIN

Let’s food educate our little ones and raise happy and healthy children.

Children who will thank us later for they ate real food and learnt a life skill; Cooking.

I am also so happy to share that the team at both BBC Good Food Middle East and Mother, Baby and Child have been extremely supportive and they too have joined the revolution. Together we are going to make MORE noise, raise more awareness and reach more children. Thank you guys!

Before I end this rather long post I must thank all the people who have come together to make this happen. Big thanks to the entire team at the Indian High School, DinnerTime, Galeries Lafayette Le Gourmet and Jamie’s Italian. Without their enthusiasm, support and generosity none of this would have been possible. Thank you ever so much.

This week and the year is going to be exciting!
